Tim Bowles
Metro Mayor for the West of England

On May 4th 2017 Tim was elected as the first West of England Mayor. Tim served as a South Gloucestershire Councillor for the Winterbourne ward from 2010 to 2017. He served on Council committees with responsibility for allocating resources, forming policies and budgeting and was a member of the senior leadership team of the controlling Conservative group.


 

Simon Caklais
Managing Director - Gilbert and Goode

Simon is a Chartered Construction Manager with over 25 years of experience in the Construction Industry, managing major capital investment portfolios, programmes and projects, working for contractor, consultant and client organisations.

He was appointed Managing Director of Gilbert and Goode Ltd in 2008, Simon is also the Chair of Constructing Excellence in Cornwall.


 

Andrew Carpenter 
Chief Executive - Constructing Excellence South West

Andrew joined the UK construction industry in 1977 with the manufacturing giant CRH, which in the UK now includes Forticrete Ltd and Ibstock Brick, and held a series of sales and business development roles in his early years. It was the ground breaking Rethinking Construction Report of 1998 that was to change Andrew’s career path. During this time he was the inaugural chairman of the national ‘Best Practice’ Club network and the public face of Constructing Excellence being responsible for marketing, events, communications and membership.


 

James Gibson
Development Director - Sovereign Housing

James has been delivering affordable housing across the south west for over 20 years. He joined Sovereign as a graduate, then worked at Gloucestershire Housing Association before returning as Assistant Development Director in 2001. Today James oversees a team delivering development opportunities across the Sovereign operating area, oversee a development programme of circa 1000 new affordable homes per annum. James has experience in developing sites via s106, regeneration, joint partnership and land acquisition.


 

Katie Fox
Programmes Manager - Stonewall Cymru

Katie Fox is Programmes Manager at Stonewall Cymru. Stonewall Cymru’s mission is to help shape a Wales where people are free to be themselves, organisations help drive change, public attitudes improve, prejudice is challenged, and laws protect LGBT people. Katie oversees the workplace and education programmes delivered in Wales by Stonewall Cymru. She works closely with clients to understand their businesses and provide tailored advice and support to drive best practice and positively impact their staff. She also delivers Stonewall’s CPD accredited empowerment programmes to organisations and individuals across Wales. 


 

Andrew Bannister
Senior Development Manager - Scape Group

Andrew proactively supports clients in achieving value for money across their capital programme, whilst also helping them to deliver with efficiency, speed and the best community outcomes possible. Andrew is an expert on multidisciplinary multi-sector projects having worked extensively for clients in Education, Health, Defence and Local Government, as well as many clients in Residential, Commercial and Industrial property. He is also a Chartered Environmentalist, and as an expert in Sustainable Construction is a speaker and writer on sustainability issues, as well as a published author.


 

Claire Miller
Project Architect. Askew Cavanna Architects & G4C Committee Member

Claire is a project architect at Askew Cavanna Architects, a practice with a reputation for working with innovative businesses, community groups, charities and individuals with a particular emphasis on sustainable development. 
Claire’s experience with and prior to Askew Cavanna covers a variety of scales within the sports, retail, housing and community sectors. Including the County Ground, Bristol for GCCC, and the recently completed Soil Association HQ in the City Centre. 
Outside the studio, Claire is passionate about social mobility, and mentors for the Fluid Diversity Mentoring Programme which was developed by RIBA’s Architects for Change (AfC) Committee and the Construction Industry Council. She is also a committee member of G4C (Generation for Change)
 


 

Emma Osmundson
Chair - Constructing Excellence South West

Emma is a Chartered Building Surveyor with over 20 years of professional consultancy experience in property, construction and development. She is currently the Housing Development Manager at Exeter City Council and Client Lead for the Exeter Bus Station Redevelopment Project. Emma’s career has spanned the private sector in commercial development across Europe and the Charitable Sector within the Church of England. She is an experienced leader of project teams and has a successful track record for delivering complex and challenging developments.


 

Simon Rawlinson 
Partner & Head of Strategic. Research and Insight Team - Arcadis

Simon is a Partner and head of Strategic Research and Insight team at Arcadis.  Arcadis is a leading design and consultancy business employing 28,000 people in 70 countries.  Simon leads internal and external research and thought leadership initiatives across the Arcadis network. Simon is a member of the Construction Leadership Council responsible for strategy, communication and thought leadership.  He is also a member of the CIC Executive and the Strategic Forum for Construction.


 

Ros Trotman
Chairman South West - Women in Property & Thrings Planning Expert

Rosalyn joined Thrings in 2014 after more than three years spent in local government. She is ranked as a leader in Planning in the South West by Chambers and Partners and recommended by Legal500. Day-to-day, Rosalyn advises on a number of development schemes including the negotiation of section 106 agreements and highways agreements, advising on Community Infrastructure Levy and the application of local and national planning policies for a range of residential, mixed use and commercial schemes. 


 

Steve Ward 
Consultant - Lean Consult

From apprentice carpenter to Chartered Builder, with over 30 years construction experience, Steve helped pioneer the practical translation of lean improvement philosophy and techniques in the construction sector. For the last eight years he has facilitated improvement teams in private and social housing, retail, leisure, manufacturing, infrastructure and utilities. A systems thinker, passionate about helping teams and individuals succeed, Steve works effectively from board room to coal face.
