Jo specialises in advising on Construction & Engineering law, as well as Renewable Energy law matters. She is also a co-author of a 2018 publication for Constructing Excellence South West – The Legal Guide to Offsite Manufacturing.
Jo advises on a broad range of construction, engineering and development matters, including the negotiation and drafting of contracts, appointments, warranties, security documents and project documents, as well as new build and re-finance renewable energy projects, including wind, solar, biomass, anaerobic digestion and waste to energy. In addition to transactional matters, Jo also advises on all forms of dispute resolution, including adjudication and arbitration.
Prior to joining Michelmores' Bristol office, Jo worked as part of the Construction & Energy team at Hugh James in Cardiff, for over nine years.

Environmental Consultant, WSP
Chris is an Environmental Consultant at WSP, having joined the company in 2015, and is currently the vice chair (south) for the Constructing Excellence South West G4C committee. He has an MSc in Environmental Consultancy and a BSc in Environment Science.
His areas of practice include Environmental Impact Assessment, Environmental Management and Sustainability Appraisal, and Health Impact Assessment. Chris also has extensive experience of construction site environmental risks and the implementation of environmental procedures and controls. Chris’ experience has been gained in a variety of sectors including energy/power, infrastructure, and residential and commercial land development. Chris’ role has a particular focus on supporting the delivery of large multidisciplinary infrastructure projects. He has an interest in international projects, having gained experience working on projects based in Africa and the Middle East. Last year Chris won the Sustainability Award at the G4C Awards Exeter.

Sam studied by day release for a degree in Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management at UWE, Bristol, for which he was awarded the RICS South West Regional Prize for High achievement. Following this, he studyied for his RICS APC. He then studied for his MSc in International Construction Law via Distance Learning. Sam started his career at ROK as a Management Trainee until they entered into administration and then joined Galliford Try where he progressed in 7.5 years from a Trainee QS to Managing Surveyor. He has worked on a variety of projects such as Mixed Use Residential, Stadia, Listed Buildings, Schools and now Nuclear.

Project Architect, Askew Cavanna Architects
Claire is a Project Architect at Askew Cavanna Architects in Bristol, having qualified in 2016 after studying part-time at The Cass - London Metropolitan University and The University of Bath, whilst working in practice. In her postgraduate final year she was selected by the Design Council as ‘One to Watch for 2015’, and awarded both the E3 Engineers Award for Innovative Environmental Design, and the BDP Nick Terry Urban Design Prize for Master planning. Prior to studying Architecture, she obtained a first-class degree in 3D Design: Furniture & Interior Design.
Having worked in the industry for a decade, she has experience of coordinating and running projects through all RIBA stages, and has worked on a variety of projects within the sports, retail, housing, community and education sectors.
Passionate about social mobility within the construction industry, Claire also mentors for the Fluid Diversity Mentoring Programme, which was developed by RIBA’s Architects for Change (AfC) Committee and the Construction industry Council.

Lydia is a construction lawyer at Trowers and Hamlins LLP having qualified in 2016 after studying with the University of Law in Bristol. On a daily basis Lydia loves working in the construction industry providing daily legal advice to commercial clients and public sector bodies to include contractors, developers, funders and construction professionals upon their rights and obligations in the construction process. Lydia enjoys working on a variety of projects and has particular expertise in the education sector.
Lydia was a finalist in the future leader category of the G4C Young Achiever of the Year Awards. Along with being an active committee member of G4C, Lydia enjoys being a member of the Women in Property network, a member of the Women in Social Housing network and a member of the Society of Construction Law.

Rae is a solicitor in the Construction and Engineering team at Womble Bond Dickinson's Plymouth office, with experience of both transactional and disputes work for a variety of private and public sector clients. Rae's transactional experience includes reviewing and advising on industry standard and bespoke forms building contracts as well as appointments, warranties and associated security documents. Rae's dispute experience includes assisting with mediations, adjudications (including enforcement proceedings), pre-action matters and trials.
Rae has also previously worked with clients in the renewable energy sector, financial services and luxury yacht manufacturers. Rae was previously seconded for nine months to Diageo in London, gaining in-depth understanding of how large multi-national and multi-jurisdiction companies operate, and the challenges and opportunities such companies have.

Laura graduated in Law LLB from the University of Exeter in 2013, and studied for her Legal Practice Course (LPC) at the University of Law Bloomsbury. She then worked as a commercial paralegal in-house, and then as litigation paralegal at a West End Firm, followed by an International Firm. Following this, she completed her training contract at a city firm, where she had exposure to Construction Law, Parliamentary/Planning Law, Property Law and Commercial Litigation with a particular focus on large scale housing developments and national infrastructure projects for both private and public sector clients. Laura also has higher rights of audience in the civil courts throughout England and Wales.
Laura joined Bevan Brittan in 2017, and is a solicitor in the Commercial and Infrastructure Department, specialising primarily in contentious construction matters. She undertakes all types of dispute resolution work for employers, main contractors and subcontractors including adjudication, mediation, and litigation. She also has experience and assists on non-contentious construction matters.
In her final year at Exeter University Laura was awarded the School of Law Prize, and has also been awarded scholarships for sport.

Pre-construction Coordinator at Kier Construction
Becky joined Kier in 2017 following medical discharge from the Royal Marines Band Service, where she served for over 14 years. On completion of a 5 month work placement at Kier, organised through their links with the Royal Marines Charity, she was offered a role as Submissions Coordinator. Becky has progressed to leading bids and taking projects through the pre-construction phase, gaining skills in bid coordination and production, including graphic design, writing and reviewing responses, along with preparing teams for interviews and presentations. Currently, she is studying for a Post Graduate Certificate in Built Environment Studies, with the aim of ultimately achieving a MSc in Construction Management.

Gemma began working for G4S in 2013 at the MO HQ in Exeter, Devon. She was responsible for the Soft FM support service functions. A spell as the Hard FM administrator equipped her for her next role.
In 2016 she was appointed FM Co-Ordinator within the Met Office FM and Technical Services Team, and became responsible for the implementation of the Met Office CAFM system and the FSI’s Concept Evolution to facilitate the teams “One Estate” ethos. Gemma is responsible for the “One Estate” asset management and scheduling to ensure the estate is safe to use, compliant and available.
On completion of the BIM Level 2 IT Hall and Collaboration Building at Exeter Science Park, Gemma worked on the Cobie ingestion into the CAFM system. She continues to work closely with the Met Office supplier FSI in developing an approach to integrate and view BIM model data.
Regional Pre-Construction Manager for Dodd Group (South) Ltd
Paul joined Dodd Group in 2015 as a commercial estimator within their south pre-construction team. Paul has been working within the pre-construction aspect of the building services industry since 2012, and has secured various size contracts from a range of clients covering a broad spectrum of sectors.
Having completed a technical apprenticeship and having extensive on-site experience through great exposure to various applications of building services he is able to apply a very practical approach to proposed building services. During his time within the industry he has been recognised for the passion and commitment he has to the industry in that he was nominated for MK apprentice of the year and was a national finalist, and has received recognition from industry groups such as the CESW for his image within the construction industry.
In 2016 Paul was appointed as Dodd Groups Regional Pre-Construction manager for the South, he now manages all aspects of the preconstruction/estimating department, from the generation of bids, design management, cost planning, feasibility studies & financial reporting, early commercial review of contracts, value engineering and alternative building service strategies to ensure maximum commercial value is realised for the client.
Paul was a finalist for the G4C/CESW image in construction award, and in 2018 was a finalist within the Future leader category. Paul enjoys being a part of the construction industry and also supports The Building Forum Plymouth & Construction Excellence Plymouth.
Solicitor at Womble Bond Dickinson
Emma is a solicitor in the Construction and Engineering team at Womble Bond Dickinson's Plymouth office and has experience of both transactional and contentious matters for a variety of clients including employers, contractors, sub-contractors and consultants. On the contentious side, Emma has assisted in a variety of adjudications, mediations, arbitrations and trial preparations as well as pre-action matters. On the transactional side, Emma has experience of both bespoke and standard form contracts as well as the associated ancillary documents such as warranties, appointments and security documents. Emma also has valuable experience of other sectors including Real Estate and Employment and has previously been seconded to the in-house litigation team at Network Rail.

Alex’s first role was at the Environment Agency where he worked in the External Relations team, working on projects relating to flood alleviation, energy from waste facilities and communications. He then moved to Aster Group, a social housing provider working across the South & South West, a highlight being part of a team working on a sector leading research study into Climate change adaptation in social housing. In 2015 Alex joined Willmott Dixon Construction as Sustainability Manager, a highlight being part of the team that worked on Aurora, a BREEAM Outstanding office building located in Finzel’s Reach Bristol.

Abi started her career as an apprentice Quantity Surveyor in 2013, she has since completed a degree in Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management through part-time study while also working in the industry.
She has experience in providing cost management and project management services in the commercial office, health and leisure, retail and healthcare sectors. Abi is also the Treasurer for Constructing Excellence Bristol Club
As Chair-person for the newly formed G4C South West committee her main objective for her tenure is to establish G4C South West as one of the leading bodies for young professionals in the region by holding regular events with focuses on G4C’s core aims.
