Celebrating Construction Excellence in the South West

It was a Friday night packed full of festivities at this year’s South West Built Environment Awards. For the ninth year running more than 400 delegates gathered together at the Bristol Marriott City Hotel on 20 May 2016, to celebrate and acknowledge the best of the region’s innovative construction projects and talented individuals.

The awards were hosted by Martin Roberts property expert and presenter of the popular BBC One show, Homes Under the Hammer.

Built Environment Awards

Big winners of the night were Kier Construction, the property, residential and services group collected a total of three awards with employee Paul Fowles picking up this year’s Achiever of the Year Award, for his management of challenging building projects. The company also scooped the highly acclaimed Heritage Award for the Cannington Court project, an EDF Energy training campus that opened Clifford Hall, a chapel dating back to 1830, to the public. The third and final award for Kier was the Infrastructure Project of the Year Award for the £45m redevelopment of Cheltenham Race Course grandstand.

Merlin Housing Society also picked up three awards on the night. The housing organisation collected the prestigious Client of the Year Award for their dynamic approach to redevelopment programmes, delivering a high standard of housing to its customers. Merlin collected the Health and Safety Award for ‘the Flagship’ project, the redevelopment of prefabricated reinforced concrete homes and the Value Award for the Weir House project.

The Innovation Award went to construction group, Morgan Sindall for the Drawing Studio project, a £1.7million freestanding steel pre-fabricated pavilion at the Arts University Bournemouth.

Proudly taking home the Young Achiever of the Year Award was Oliver Caunt of Midas Construction. Oliver’s drive and passion for the industry has taken him from site manager to become the youngest ever project manager at Midas.

It was a joint victory for The Winner of Winners’ Award sponsored by CIOB which went to Ward Williams Associates and Gilbert & Goode for the Green Build Hub and Atrium Studio.

For the 9th year, the South West Built Environment Awards were held at a high profile dinner on Friday 20th May 2016. More than four hundred leaders and innovators from across the construction sector gathered together at the Bristol Marriott Hotel City Centre to celebrate the very best industry projects.

The Awards are recognised as being in a class of their own, celebrating best practice combined with great entertainment and an effective platform for targeting the construction industry. The extremely popular event will be attended by representatives of local and regional companies together with senior figures in the industry.

Winning the South West Built Environment Awards automatically qualifies you for entry into the National Constructing Excellence Awards, where the best that our region has to offer is pitted against the best nationwide.
